Why Laughing Together is No Joke

When was the last time you had a good belly laugh?

How long has it been since you got together with your family or friends and laughed so hard you almost fell off your chair? Exchanging jokes with friends and giggling over dinner or laughing it up watching a funny movie together with your family may be more important activities than you think! In the current climate, it may seem likes it's been forever! It's already a proven scientific fact that laughter causes the release of endorphins in our brains that produce feelings of happiness and an elevated sense of well-being.  But the results of a recent study about relaxed "social laughter" and the role it plays in our lives has revealed that the effects of group laughter are much more far reaching than temporarily elevating our mood levels.  These experiments have shown that laughter isn't just an essential component of our social exchanges and non-verbal communication, it also has a great effect on our well-being by fostering group bonding and providing us with an enhanced ability to protect ourselves from both physical and psychological pain by elevating our pain thresholds. Since endorphins are primarily released through our participation in physical activities, not our involvement in social interaction, the actual physical exertion of our laughing muscles is what causes our brain to release endorphins, not the intellectual enjoyment of stimulating cerebral humor, as it might appear.  These newly discovered benefits of laughing with our group of friends or family, that is, "social laughter", gives the ancient adage, "Laughter is the best medicine" a whole new meaning!  Engaging in the physical act of laughter with a group may be one of the best ways to fight the many effects of the daily stresses we all experience at one time or another. But the really funny thing is that Clyde P. Riddlesbrood, mysterious, erudite Founder of Riddlesbrood Touring Theatre Company, had cracked open the secret health benefits of "social laughter" years ago by cracking up his audiences for years with his hilarious comedy theater productions.

Our motto: "The Riddlesbrood players shall be fanatically dedicated to delighting everyone. We will creep silently into your heart, pitch our tent and, once there, practice our grinning arts. Those who spy our movements shall leave with much inspiration and be filled with uncommon energies to face the drudgery of the days beyond. We, the Riddlesbrood, shall perch dangerously where the laugh justifies the means; for, after all, life may be no laughing matter. But it will be our design to try!" - Clyde P Riddlesbrood Whether old friends and neighbors, new found friends, family members or business colleagues, everyone will laugh it up at a Riddlesbrood show!  Take a bit of Saturday Night Live, mix it with a tad of Monty Python and then throw in a helping of the Zucker Brothers ( the movie "Airplane!") and you'll experience the comedy concoction of wit that makes up Riddlesbrood's brand of humor renown for its side-splitting improvisation ... and you'll have Fun! Fun! And more Fun! That’s the best way to put it.  Riddlesbrood Touring Theatre Company is celebrating its 16th year with over 1,600 shows under its belt and many of these past productions can be seen on Past Shows on our website.
